Pelican built its name on protective cases. CRATE is the company reaching for a different job: modular cargo storage that organizes gear, secures it, and travels well, in a truck bed, on a platform roof rack, or at a campsite.
The CRATE 45L and 90L are the two sizes in the line. Both are molded from Pelican's HPXC polymer, rated IP67 against water and dust, and built around the ModRail exterior rail system, which takes tie-downs, mounts and accessories on a standard T-slot. Both are rugged, stackable, and interlock with each other for stable transport. The difference between them is capacity, footprint and weight, and that is what this comparison is for.

Pelican CRATE 45L vs. 90L: choosing the right size
The CRATE 45L is the compact, lighter option at 10.5 lbs empty, well suited to smaller gear loads, tighter spaces, and easier handling. The CRATE 90L, at 17.5 lbs empty, gives you roughly double the interior volume for bulkier equipment or longer trips where storage capacity is the priority. Both models feature a multi-position removable lid that opens from either side, giving you fast, unrestricted access no matter how your gear is packed or stacked.
Whichever size you choose, the integrated ModRail exterior accommodates tie-downs and mounting accessories, including the Bar Loop and Cleat. The 45L and 90L also interlock, so they can be stacked together for organized transport. Inside, EZ-Click MOLLE panels, trays and divider sets organize the load. All ModRail and interior accessories are sold separately.
